30 Days of TV meme! - Day 08

Day 08 - A show everyone should watch

Argh, I'm so torn! I wanna say both Veronica Mars and Community

Veronica Mars is full of brilliant storytelling and incredible characters, and anyone who has not watched it is missing out in life. But if you're just not into 'serialised' crime-ish procedurals, it's premise may not lure you over. But trust me, it's soooo much more than 'teen misfit detective solves crimes in her spare time', it really is! The relationship between Veronica and her dad Keith is my favourite parent/child relationship of all time. They are gold. And then there's all the Logan and Veronica goodness! But...

Community is a bit more... "appealing to all mankind" (their words, not mine). It is an amazing, character driven comedy, and who doesn't love those? Even during its rough patches, Community shines (apart from Grifting 101, seriously, skip that one). The writing and performances are seriously top notch, and they are not afraid to step outside the box with some of their episodes.

30 Days of TV meme! - Day 07

Day 07 - Least favourite episode of your favourite TV show

I don't wanna talk about it.

Argh.

Grifting 101. I like to pretend it doesn't exist. The plot was dumb and pointless, and I just can't stand Matt Berry. I despise him with a passion.

30 Days of TV meme! - Day 06

Day 06 - Favourite episode of your favourite TV show

Favourite Community episode... I wanna say Conspiracy Theories and Interior Design, or a Fistful of Paintballs... But I think I'm going to go with Remedial Chaos Theory for many reasons, but mostly because it's the reason this GIF exists.

I'm sure you've seen it around, and now you know where it's from! Even though it still probably doesn't make any sense, haha. This episode also gave us the Darkest Timeline (YEEEEEES) and lots of Jeff and Annie kisses (even though they never actually really happened).

It was a great episode, and even if you've never watched Community, I recommend it!  But I warn you, you may fall in love with Community (it's a good thing, trust me).

30 Days of TV meme! - Day 05

Day 05 - A show you hate

Ok so, you know how much I loved community and Jeff, so imagine how psyched I was when I heard Joel McHale had a new show coming out! And Stephen Fry was in it too!

WHAT.THE.HELL.

The Great Indoors was not just a disappointment, it was...  Just... Horrendous. It was so bad. Like, I wanted to cry, bad. I could barely sit through the pilot, but I did, cause damn it, mama didn't raise no quitter.

But dear God.  I can NEVER unsee that.

I hate The Great Indoors. For raising my hopes of having Joel back. For being so incredibly bad. I also hate Joel McHale a little for actually signing up to this.

30 Days of TV meme! - Day 04

Day 04 - Your favourite show ever

Ok, so Fringe will always hold a special place in my heart, but... I'd be lying if I said it was still my favourite show ever. That spot has been stolen by Community. Sorry Fringe, it's not you, it's me.

But seriously though, Community was just downright brilliant. Even during it's 'gas leak' year. Yeah, the quality dropped in the latter seasons, but can you think of any show where that hasn't happened? A bad community episode was still a pretty good one (except Grifting 101, that episode can go die a lonely death in a pit somewhere). Also, JeffxAnnie for the win.

30 Days of TV meme! - Day 03

Day 03 - Your favourite new show (aired this TV season)

Hey, now that I think about it, I didn't watch that many new shows this TV season! Does Stranger Things count? Because I loooved that show.

The only new shows I've watched so far are Timeless and Frequency, and I liked them, but I wouldn't say either was a favourite (plus it does not do to get attached to bubble shows).

Oh wait no! The Good Place! How could I forget! The Good Place gets my vote :D IT. WAS. GREAT. Plus, I get to watch Kirsten Bell again!

30 Days of TV meme! - Day 02

Day 02 - A show you wish more people were watching

I'm going to go with Frequency. I guess its more of a  I wish more people had watched it, though.
I liked the film, and I love time travel-ish stories, so I was really looking forward to this TV adaptation, and I can't say I was terribly disappointed. The main character was likeable, even thought she did make some silly decisions, and the plot was captivating enough to keep me watching. Alas, I was one of few, and the ratings weren't very high, even by CW standards, so it's on the bubble, with TVline calling it a long shot. The bright side is that at least the season ending did offer some closure so I won't be driven mad if it is cancelled... But there were still some unresolved bits and pieces that I would have liked to see play out in a season 2.

30 Days of TV meme! - Day 01

To reeeeally kick things off, I'm starting with a meme all about my second favourite thing in the world, TV! (Chocolate is the first, in case you were wondering.)

Here is the list of meme questions for you to steal if you so wish:

Meme questions )
Onto the first question!

Day 01 - A show that never should have been cancelled

That's a though one to start on... There are a lot of shows I wanted another season of, but that's more due the fact that I hate NOT KNOWING how things end, more than the show being super high quality with lots of potential. Shows like Flashforward, Persons Unknown and The Nine fall into this category. I understand why they got cancelled... They just weren't good enough to draw interest. But these all ended in cliffhangers, and for the love of God, I still want to know what happened next! WHYYY?

Almost Human and Alphas did have potential, but sadly, I think they weren't handled as well as they could have, and their audience never really grew.

Then there's shows that never really got off the ground, like Three Inches and Lone Star. Those seemed to have potential, and I guess I do think they shouldn't have been cancelled. But neither of those really qualify as shows since Lone Star got axed three episodes in, and the Three Inches pilot basically aired as a TV movie.

I wanna say Community or Fringe, but to be honest, even a big fan like myself can admit those two were near their sell by dates, and cancellation was probably a good thing. As long as we get our movie.

I think that leaves me with Go On, which I really do think deserved at least another season. It was well written, Matthew Perry was on fire, and it was heartwarming and hilarious. It had a lot of story to tell, and the cast was great.

But what I really want to with, logic and reasoning be damned, is Veronica Mars, because it never should have been fracking cancelled ever you evil CW bastards. Look, I know season 3 was kind of a mess, but you should have given it a chance, man! Veronica would never have let you down! She was your girl, you backstabbing monsters!

At least we finally got a movie. It better not take Community this long. #SixSeasonsAndAMovie

A Guide To College by a College Dropout

I thought my first post should be a throwback, so here's a letter I wrote to my friend, who was just about to start college. He graduated, in case you were wondering.

Hello dude.

WELCOME TO COLLEGE! Remember, that the friends you make at college will be your friends for life, so don't sit next to the nerdy, lonely guy reading comic books. (I for one, didn't stay at college long enough to make friends, therefore, I now have none.) Don't sit next to the loud, obnoxious twats either. Trust me, you don't wanna be in with THAT crowd. Find someone that kinda looks like you, and say hi. Smile, be nice, but not too nice, or they will WALK ALL OVER YOU!!! Don't be afraid to do things and go places by yourself either. You don't wanna be that 'weird, needy guy who keeps asking me to go shoe shopping with him, even though we're not even in the same class'. (Also, stay away from people who want to go shoe shopping with you. Stay away from people who want to go shopping with you, period. Unless it's for food, of course.)

Speaking of food, don't be lazy and eat ready meals all the freaking time. I know you're skinny now, but trust me on this, once you hit 20, you start growing sideways instead of upwards. Cook food, because cooking is fun! Oh, but when you go to McD's and Burger King, make sure you take with you as much ketchup and salt packets AS IT'S PHYSICALLY POSSIBLE. Play your cards right, and you will never have to buy ketchup and salt for the rest of your life.

Go to your lessons. But if for some reason, lets say, 'you're alarm didn't go off', then chill. No one will die because you missed a 3 hour lecture on the Forensics of Dust delivered by a guy in monotone. (I really wish I'd stayed home that day.) Don't feel guilty about it, but don't do it too often either. Knowledge is power, and no one will hire stupid people.

And finally, it's okay to drop out. I survived, more or less. I'm not saying you should, just reminding you that college isn't for everyone. If you don't like it, grab your shit and hightail it outta there! (Now that you are at college, you are officially allowed to swear, but be careful where you do it. Old ladies carry surprisingly heavy bags.)

One last thing! If you embarrass yourself, by for example, spilling a cup of coke whilst standing in line to pay, and it goes all over the counter/floor/your clothes in your first week, and you feel like cursing your inability to balance items on a tray like all the other normal human beings, and you begin to question if you will ever actually be able to behave like a adult in society and stop embarrassing your self in public like the idiot that you are, or wondering, as you scramble to help the poor cafeteria lady to clean up your dumb mess, if the cute guy that sits behind you in Forensic Science is anywhere within 5 miles of your current location and is silently laughing at how stupid you are... What was I talking about? Oh right. Embarrassment. go with the flow, laugh it off, and forget about it. Believe it or not, people are incredibly self centred, and they don't really care about your balance issues. No one will remember it in two days. Psychological fact.

And there you have it. My guide to college. But I only did it for 3 months, so what the hell do I know.

Tania

P.S.: If you need anything, give me a call. I'll probably be working, but having missed calls on my phone makes me feel important.
